The Federal Ministry of Education in Abuja has announced the launch of the Industry Mapping Sensitization Program under its Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) initiative, aimed at connecting Technical College students with practical workplace experience.
In a statement, the ministry invited small, medium, and large-scale industries to participate in the programme, which will run alongside the Student Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) and the Student Field Work Experience Scheme (SFWES) for three years. “The Federal Government is covering training fees and monthly stipends for students, ensuring both industries and students benefit,” the ministry stated.
According to the ministry, the programme’s goal is to empower Technical College students with industry-ready skills through hands-on learning. The government has pledged to support industries by paying a set training fee per student for the duration of the SIWES/SFWES, providing monthly allowances for students during their placements, and offering guidance on effective training and mentorship.
Students will be placed in different categories of industries:
i. Small-Scale Industries – Small production outfits.
ii. Medium-Scale Industries – Growing companies with moderate staff and output.
iii. Large-Scale Industries – Big corporations and industrial facilities with advanced technology and mass production.
