NIMS 2025 Set to Bridge Industrial Skills Gap in Nigeria

The National Industrial Manpower Summit (NIMS) 2025 will take place from Monday, August 12 to Wednesday, August 14, 2025, at Eagle Square in Abuja. The event begins daily at 9:00AM (WAT) and is a Presidential Initiative aimed at driving industrial growth through workforce development. It is organised under the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Industrial Training & Development.

According to the organisers, “NIMS 2025 is a bold, strategic response. It will set a new direction for Nigeria’s industrial workforce, grounded in data, driven by collaboration, and backed by presidential leadership.”

The summit is designed to address the pressing issue of skill shortages across key sectors in Nigeria. As Africa’s most populous country and largest economy, Nigeria continues to face challenges in industrial growth due to a lack of adequate manpower.

“There’s a widening gap between the skills our people have and the skills our industries demand,” organisers said. “This gap holds back productivity, job creation, global competitiveness, and inclusive economic progress.”

NIMS 2025 is a high-level event that brings together stakeholders from government, business, academia, and international partners. It focuses on building a skilled industrial workforce aligned with national goals for economic transformation.

Its mission is to:
i. Identify and address sector-specific skill gaps
ii. Design new frameworks for apprenticeship and vocational training
iii. Build stronger ties between education, government, and industry
iv. Set policy direction for a long-term workforce strategy
v. Position Nigeria as a regional leader in industrial skills development

The summit’s theme, Manpower Development: The Bridge Between Potential and Productivity, reflects the urgent need to reframe the way Nigeria trains and deploys its workforce.

The event is open to:
a. Government officials and policymakers
b. Industrial leaders and manufacturers
c. Academic institutions and training bodies
d. Entrepreneurs and innovators in workforce development
e. International development partners

Organisers state, “We are launching a national shift with NIMS 2025. The future of Nigeria’s industrial strength depends on the quality of its people. We’re designing outcomes that build industries, create jobs, and make Nigeria’s economy work for everyone.”
