WAEC Temporarily Withdraws 2025 WASSCE Results Due to Technical Glitches

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced a temporary suspension of access to the 2025 WASSCE for School Candidates (SC) results. This action comes after technical issues were discovered during an internal review of the examination process.

According to an official statement released by WAEC on Thursday, August 7, 2025, the issue arose from the Council’s recent innovation aimed at curbing examination malpractice. “As part of our efforts to curb examination malpractice, the Council embarked on an innovation (paper serialization) already deployed by a national examination body,” the release stated.

The serialization method was applied to key subjects including Mathematics, English Language, Biology, and Economics. While the initiative aligns with global best practices in assessment, it resulted in some unforeseen technical bugs. “An internal post result release procedure revealed some technical bugs in the results,” WAEC said.

In response, WAEC has taken steps to ensure fairness and professionalism by urgently initiating a correction of the glitches. This action has made it necessary to temporarily block access to the result checker portal.

“The Council, being a responsive body that is sensitive to fairness and professionalism, has decided to urgently review and correct the technical glitches that led to the situation,” the statement explained. WAEC assured that the correction process is being handled with urgency and transparency.

Affected candidates and the general public have been asked for understanding. “We extend our deep and sincere apologies to all affected candidates and the general public. We appreciate their patience and understanding as we work diligently to resolve this matter with transparency and urgency within the next twenty-four (24) hours,” the Council stated.

Candidates who have previously checked their results are advised to re-check after 24 hours.

WAEC reaffirmed its commitment to “excellence, fairness and transparency” and thanked Nigerians for their continued trust in the examination body.

The press release was signed by Moyosola Adesina, anipr, Acting Head of Public Affairs, WAEC, Yaba, Lagos.
